Daily Fantasy Football Sleepers Week 7

Alex Smith, Kansas City Chiefs – Any time a team get shredded by a rookie Raiders quarterback to the tune of four touchdowns, consider that secondary a target in daily fantasy football leagues.  Which is exactly what happened to who Alex Smith is going to face on Sunday—the San Diego Chargers.   Also consider that the last Chargers-Chiefs matchup have been shootouts averaging 58 points by the teams combined. RB Jamaal Charles can’t score all of the points for Chiefs and Smith gets to throw to him and breakout tight end Travis Kelce.

Running Back

Jerick McKinnon, Minnesota Vikings –  Even though Vikes coach Mike Zimmer is reportedly looking to get pounder RB Matt Asiata more carries against the Bills, we still like McKinnon to get the majority of snaps against a fierce Bills run defense.  McKinnon is easily the most explosive player the Vikings have in their backfield and will be in a force in the passing game as well.  He stood strong against the Lions defense and got 82 total yards and six catches, for those interested in PPR formats.

Jonathan Stewart, Carolina Panthers – The Panthers are awaiting to hear that Kelvin Benjamin may have to sit out against the Packers due to a “mild” concussion.  If that is the case, seriously consider warming back up The Daily Show.  Granted, he’s been AWOL since Jersey Shore was relevant but the Packers run defense is abysmal.  The downside to any Carolina back is that Cam Newton has regained confidence in his own ability to run the ball.  In either case, the Panthers will have to ground and pound and Stewart, if he plays, has far more talent than backs Darrin Reaves or Fozzy Whitaker.

Wide Receiver

Andre Holmes, Oakland Raiders – One of these days Oakland has got to produce a fantasy-relevant receiving commodity right?  Enter Holmes a big, athletic 6’4 220 pound receiver who has average 18 standard fantasy points the last two weeks.  He shredded a formidable Chargers secondary to the tune of 121 yards and two touchdowns last week and now gets the bumbling Cardinals secondary at home this week.   He still may defer to WR James Jones in terms of targets but with Arizona’s Carson Palmer back in the saddle, this game has the look of a shootout.  Don’t be scared of his connection with rookie quarterback Derek Carr- the Cards have allowed 105 fantasy points to receivers in the last three games.

Odell Beckham, Jr., New York Giants – The Giants will look to the 13th pick in May’s draft as a replacement for the injured Victor Cruz.  Beckham has a Antonio Brown-type skillset that allows him to play much bigger than his 5’11 190 pound frame would suggest.  With Reuben Randle moving the chains and Larry Donnell all but disappearing the last couple of weeks, look for Beckham to go off on a very beatable Dallas secondary.

Tight End

Jace Amaro, New York Jets – Lost in the ineptitude that is the Jets offense was a breakout by their glorified oversized wide receiver, also known as tight end Jace Amaro, who isn’t owned at all in the vast majority of standard leagues.  He caught 10 passes against the Broncos and he plays against a Patriots defense that just led Scott chandler put 105 yards up on them.  Get him for tonight’s contest as the Jets will probably be throwing plenty.

Cleveland Browns – The Browns don’t make a bunch of big plays with just one interception and seven sacks but they get the Jaguars on Sunday.  Jags rookie quarterback has thrown two pick sixes and taken eleven sacks in just 3.5 games of work.
